TREMONTON, Utah- Today, on Interstate 84, a USU van rolled just after 4 p.m. Inside the van were 10 current USU agriculture students and one instructor. There is at least one fatality.

It has been reported that the suspected factors that caused the rolling of the van were speed and some kind of mechanical malfunction.

Investigation is under way families of the victims are being contacted at this time. There is only one name being released at this time, a student at USU, Robert Petersen, whose family was notified and is with him at the hospital.

Arriving quickly to the scene, Lt. Jason Jensen said, "It was really one of the worst scenes in all my 11 years in service. There were bodies scattered all over the side of the highway."

USU President, Stan Albrecht, said "The timing of this event will effect students more than anything else." Utah State is an agriculture school and was currently celebrating "Ag Week". "This hits right at the center of who we are at this university. The word tradgedy really doesn't do this justice," said Albrecht.

Albrecht is certain that the university will have some sort of memorial scheduled and will make an announcement in the near future.

Logan, UT- Today, in Abuja, Nigeria, Ted Turner along side Bill and Melinda Gates were spotted meeting with local African officials.

Ted Turner is helping to fund the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation involving the health of African citizens. "Call it a turning point," says Bill Gates, "we have all this technology and access to resources and still people are dying." Some people believe that bringing simply dollars and food to this poor country will solve many problems, but as Bill has said before, "teach someone to fish, they'll eat for a long time."

With the help of Turner, Bill and Melinda are putting together a health education plan through this foundation, specifically targeting those infected with diseases such as malaria, polio, Aids, and HIV. All of which hope to be overcome by nothing better than education. To Bill, prevention does not seem that difficult.

Mayor of Abuja, Malik Ok, said, "I will say in general, we have made calls for help for our nation and city. We have recognized a call for help." Bill and Melinda approached local African officials with this proposal and are currently discussing their interest.

Salt Lake City, Utah- The Utah Jazz won the defeating Eastern Conference Champion Cleveland Caveliers, 106-99. With only one minute left in the game, the Jazz 99, Caveliers 100, Paul Millsap stepped in for a three and left the Jazz with a victory.

Although the Jazz went into the game 2-2, they were determined to make things happen. Tonights big star, Andrei Kirilenko, said "I had a lot of energy going into tonights game." He mentioned his frustration over their loss at LA, when Koby Bryant blocked Kirilenko's dunk. "I wanted to be the one that was blocking in today's game." So indeed, Kirilenko was on fire and didn't fail to block his opponent Le Bron James.

"I certainly like the way Andrei stepped up today. Defensively he was great, offensively he made plays happen," said Utah Jazz head coach, Jerry Sloan. Sloan was excited, and surprised to see C.J. Miles make things happen in tonights game with 4 steals and a three point shot. Sloan said he really helped to give the veterans more energy. He is excited for this win, and feels that it will help to bring more confidence to the Jazz as they continue through practice until their upcoming game against the Seatle Sonics. "I feel our team could have done better deffensively, and we still have a lot of improvements to do," said Sloan.

Cleveland Caveliers head coach, Mike Brown, said, "I don't think anything went wrong, it just didn't really go our way. We couldn't get things together to pull out in time." Like always, the Caveliers can always count on Le Bron James to bring in close to 30 points, and really carries his team well.

The Jazz find excitement with this win, but also find the need to stay focused in order to pull through these next few games including Friday nights game in Seatle.

Conan Christopher O'Brien

Conan O’Brien, host of Late Night with Conan O’Brien, died Wednesday Oct. 3, 2007 on the set after being strangled by a guest boa constrictor.

The guest, Bindi S. Irwin, daughter of Steve Irwin, brought her favorite companion to the set, Studio six, located at 30 Rocketfeller Plaza in New York, NY. After agreeing to take his turn in holding this enormous creature, O’Brien panicked after noticing a light fixture from above the set come plunging down. The snake was frightened and took a literal death grip around O’Brien’s neck. Camera men and stage men immediately dashed to rescue him. The tight tense, firm clench around Conan’s neck instantly took his life as co-workers were unable to unravel the huge unmanageable living thing.

His extreme hair style, outstanding height of 6’4, and his personal “string dance” are a few things O’Brien is well known for in his career. In his most recent position, as host of Late Night, Conan also became known for his spontaneous style of hosting. Onstage, he nearly always provided awkward moments, hilarious impressions, and lots of facial expressions to keep things exciting.
He attended Harvard University, where he was the president of Harvard Humor Magazine, “The Harvard Lampoon”. He was a magna cum laude graduate, from Harvard University, with a BA in American History and Literature. Following his schooling years, he set off into the world of writing, television, and comedy in which he was currently active since 1985.

In 1988 was hired as a writer for the hit television show Saturday Night Live, by executive producer Lorne Michaels. After a slump in his earlier employment, about three years later, Conan began writing episodes for the all time favorite, The Simpsons. Although both of these brought O’Brien much success, it was suggested by colleagues that O'Brien try out to be the new host of Late Night with David Letterman. On Sept. 13, 1993, the premiere for Late Night with Conan O’Brien took place. Although this comical show was generally unfavorable by critics in the beginning, as of Oct. 2006, Late Night with Conan O'Brien had for eleven years, consistently attracted an audience averaging about 2.5 million viewers.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_O'Brien)

With the help from his Late Night writing staff, O’Brien was consistently nominated for many Emmy Awards including ‘Award for Best Writing in a Comedy or Variety Series’, and finally won in the year 2007. He and his writing team also won the ‘Writers Guild Award for Best Writing in a Comedy/Variety Series’ in the years 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

At an early age he’d find great pleasure from comedy and playing pranks on others, well throughout his prestigious college career at Harvard. Conan always found his niche in bringing laughter out in himself and those around him. During his exciting career with theatre, television, and stand up, O’Brien once said, "If I existed 200 years ago, all the other farmers in my community would be like, 'That guy is worthless! He's sitting on a rock, jumping up like a frog, coming up with weird concepts and ideas, making faces, and combing his hair into a giant pastry.' It's a good thing I was born in this century, when superfluous television seems to be part of the economy."(http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005277/bio)

Conan, was born April 18, 1963, in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he grew up in a large catholic family. Surviving are his parents Ruthe and Thomas, and five siblings: Neal O’Brien (47), Luke O’Brien (46), Kate O’Brein (42), Jane O’Brien (40), and Justin O’Brien (35). Conan O’Brien also leaves behind his dear wife Liza Powel (42), and his daughter Neve (4), and son Beckett (2).

Church services are to be determined.

Practice News Story 4: Court

Logan, Utah-Preliminary hearing was held today for the crime investigation at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The two suspects have been identified as James “Jim” Michaels, 35, and the other defendant a minor, whose information is not being released.

According to, District Attorney prosecutor, Noel Mayfield, these two suspects have been charged with two mistemener charges of breaking and entering, vandalism, and burglary.

The meeting house located at 16th East 900 North has been under investigation after reportedly being broken into and two CPU’s which were reported stolen. Fingerprints and K-nine investigations helped the investigators track down these two suspects, who lived just one mile from the church building. If the trial goes through, and these two suspects are found guilty of charge, they are sentenced 2-6 months in prison, and are faced with $5,000 fine, said prosecutor Mayfield.

Defense Attorney, Robbie Cochran, says that he does not believe the prosecution, or Defense Attorney, have enough evidence to support this crime.

“We got the right people in this they did not resist arrest,” says Sheriff Deputy Jefoery Hasty. He believes that perhaps their low economical status, or unemployment may have been the cause of their unlawful acts.
